Tips For Acne and Pimples
- Get Oil-Blotting Sheets
These sheets are very good in absorbing facial oil. The less facial oil you have on your face, the chances of getting your pores clogged will be lesser. They do NOT trigger pimple or acne breakouts.
Generic Store Brands are as effective as branded ones. So don’t worry about it. Get the cheap ones would do.
When using oil-blotting sheets, simply dab the sheets on your skin to let it absorb the oil. NEVER rub the sheet against your skin as this will only irritate your skin which will lead to produce even more sebum.
You can substitute it with tissue if you want. But remember, never rub your face with it… just dab to absorb your facial oil.
- Eat more fiber-rich foods
There has been reports that individuals who has constipation are very likely to suffer acne problems. Though we can’t be sure about this, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Have at least 2 servings of fruits and 2 servings of vegetables everyday.
- Oily Hair?
If you have oily hair, prevent it from touching your face. The natural oil in hair can clog your facial pores easily too.
- Avoid too much Sun Exposure
Prolonged exposure promotes rapid exfoliation of dead skin cells, thus pores can get clogged easily. A few minutes of exposure here and there doesn’t mean it’s alright. It’s best to use SPF lotion to protect your skin.
- Wash your pillow-case and towels frequently
Your face lays on your pillow case every day. Your pillow case absorbs the oils from your skin and reapplies the dirt and oil. And of course, this will cause acne breakouts. Always wash them frequently.
And never use the same bathing towel to wipe your face. Have a towel just for your face to wipe dry and wash the towel everyday.
- NEVER over-exfoliate
Although now there’s such products as everyday-use exfoliators, never exfoliate your skin too frequently. Doing so will only irritate your skin, causing your sebaceous glands to produce more sebum (oil) which will lead to clogged pores.
- Avoid Alcohol-contained Products
Try to avoid products that contains alcohol. This is particularly true for toners and facial cleansers. Alcohol dries up the oil on your face. What happens after that? Yeah, you guessed it. More oil being produced after that which will lead to pores getting clogged easily.
- Over-drying skin with medications
If you realize your skin has become flaky after using pimple and acne medications (i.e. Benzoyl Peroxide), stop applying further! Moisturize it till flakiness and dryness is over.
- Do Not Touch Your Face
Our hands are filled with lots of bacteria. Do not touch your face with your hands as this will cause pimple and acne breakouts easily. If you really need to touch your face, wash your hands with soap for at least 30-45 seconds.
- Wash Your Hands With Soap Before Washing Your Face
Though I can’t be sure of this effectiveness, it’s a good practice to do it.
Wash your hands with any facial foam or body foam thoroughly, especially underneath your fingernails. Once you’re done, only proceed to wash your face.
- Avoid Fragrance-filled Facial Cleanser
The ingredients used to make the fragrance in facial cleanser or facial foam are very harsh and irritating to our skin. And of course, this will only cause our face to produce more sebum which leads to getting the pores clogged.
- Don’t over-wash
With the myth of dirt being a cause of blemishes or acne, cut down the times you wash. Two should be the limit each day. Anymore, and you risk increasing the breakouts you have.
- Take Vitamin Supplements
Of all the tips listed in this chapter, this tip is the most important one.
It’s found that vitamin deficiency can cause acne.
Here is a list of nutrients with information for you to know:
Vitamin B5, (Panthothenic Acid) - aids the body in the immune process and also plays an important role in the hormones, both of which are linked to the development of acne.
Vitamin A, (Retinol) - plays an important role in preventing and clearing up infections of the skin. This role is believed to be so strongly connected to preventing acne, that one of the most popular acne treatment medications of all time, Retin A, is based primarily on this vitamin.
Vitamin C, (Ascorbic Acid) - The presence of vitamin C within the body is important because it builds up cell wall integrity, as well as collagen. And, since the body is not able to store it for long periods of time, it must be replenished often.
Vitamin E, – Studies show that acne problems begin to improve with sufficient levels of this powerful anti-oxidant which not only helps to maintain healthy skin by eliminating free radicals, but is also responsible for regulating the retinol, or Vitamin A.
Zinc (mineral) - Is responsible for stimulating the activity of 100 enzymes within the body, as well as, supporting a healthy immune system. Studies indicate that sufficient levels of Zinc can have a tremendous impact on the prevention of acne.
Oysters have very high zinc content.
Chromium - It helps to regulate the amount of sugar that we consume. Research shows that individuals reporting severe cases of acne typically have unstable levels of blood sugar. Those research participants given chromium supplements showed significant improvement in their skin.
Selenium - Assists in the development of selenoproteins, which help to prevent cellular damage from free radicals.
Potassium - Assists in the development of selenoproteins, which help to prevent cellular damage from free radicals.
Banana has high potassium content.
If possible, just get vitamin pills and take one every morning. It saves so much time.
- Avoid Oily Skin-Care Products
When you are buying skin-care products, make sure they are oil-free.
Avoid lotion-based products at all cost since they usually contain oil, which can cause acne outbreaks. But if it’s an oil-free lotion, then it’s ok. The same applies to cream-based products. - Avoid Hair Products That Cotains Comedogenic Chemicals/Ingredients
Yes, once you sweat all the hair products you’ve applied to your hair will affect your face. If the hair products contain comedogenic chemicals or ingredients, you will no doubt have clogged pores later.
This is especially true for hair gel. Hair products that contain alcohol can cause scalp pimples and leave that sticky feeling on your face once your sweat dries up. The stickiness forms like a layer on top of your pores causing them to get clogged.
- Never squeeze or pick on your pimples and blackheads
Squeezing or picking on your pimples or blackheads actually increases the sebum production. Also, when you squeeze or pick on it, you are actually rupturing the membranes below your skin, causing infection and sebum to spread underneath the skin. The result? More pimples!
